Long Journey Home

In the depths of the Great Depression, a child is found alone on the streets of Chicago. Without a family or home, she is swept up by well-meaning missionaries and put on a train bound for the country. She soon discovers that the struggle to adjust to her new life away from the concrete of the city is just as hard as the fight her new family faces as they try to hold onto their farm in the face of drought and foreclosure.

Long Journey Home is a new play with music by Mad River Theater Works that explores the challenges of survival and the search for hope. Using storytelling, songs, and drama, Long Journey Home brings a stormy era of American history to life and shows how humor, perseverance and friendship make all the difference.
