Inventing the Future
'Inventing the Future' is the newest play in the Mad River catalog. It tells the story of African American draughtsman and inventor Lewis Latimer (1848-1928).

Lewis recollecting on stage goes back to the decade before he was born and the story of his parents, who were runaway slaves from Norfolk, Va. As he and other characters narrate, the audience learns the story of his rise to success in the fields of science, law and invention, as well as the strong role that family played throughout his life.
